Great Budapest Synagogue, Europe's Largest Synagogue

Also known as the Dohány Street Synagogue, this temple isn't only the largest synagogue in Europe, but also the second largest in the world. It was inaugurated in 1859, during the peak of the Jewish community in Hungary.

It's a masterpiece of Moorish-Byzantine style, designed by the Viennese architect Ludwig Förster. The exterior, with its bulbous domes and red and yellow brick stripes, is as impressive as its richly decorated interior, which has a capacity for almost 3000 people.

With your tickets to the Great Synagogue, you'll enjoy a 45-minute guided tour through this important symbol of the city. The Budapest Synagogue is located in the center of the current Jewish Quarter, which was used as the Budapest Ghetto during World War II and the Holocaust.

The Synagogue complex, including the Heroes' Temple, the cemetery, and the Tree of Life Memorial, serves as a solemn monument to the victims. It's the only Jewish cemetery in the world located within the grounds of a synagogue, as the bodies of those who died in the ghetto were buried there.

When visiting the Dohány Street Synagogue, you won't only admire its spectacular architecture, but you'll also take a profound journey through the history of Budapest's Jewish community, understanding its suffering and its incredible resilience.

Afte the guided tour, you'll have another 45 minutes of free time to explore the Great Synagogue at your own pace.
