Terezín Concentration Camp Day Trip

Located in the northern part of the Czech Republic, an hour from Prague, Theresienstadt (Terezín in Czech) was a ghetto established by the Nazi SS during World War II.

On March 16, 1939, Nazi Germany established the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia on what is now Czech territory. Very soon, the minorities living in this area would be persecuted by the Third Reich.

It was in this context that the Terezín ghetto and transit concentration camp was built; it operated from November 24, 1941, to May 9, 1945. Tens of thousands of Jews and others persecuted by the Nazis were murdered there.

Today, this site of horror serves as a memorial dedicated to honoring the victims of Nazi persecution.

Day Trip to Terezín from Prague

At the designated time, we'll meet in the center of Prague and from there we'll travel by bus to Terezín. During this trip, which will take about 60 minutes, we'll follow the same route taken by the trains that transported prisoners to the camp.

Once we arrive at this former ghetto, we’ll walk through the National Cemetery and enter the concentration camp, where we’ll take a reflective tour following the path the prisoners took after their arrival.

During our tour, we’ll visit the main sites of the Terezín concentration camp:

  • Registration office
  • Clothing warehouse
  • Cell courtyards
  • Execution wall
  • Cemetery complex
  • Morgue

We'll also visit the Ghetto Museum, where we'll see various objects and drawings that will give us insight into what daily life was like for the prisoners in Terezín. Today, this Czech town is home to about 3,000 people who live alongside the sites of the former centers of horror, now converted into museums and memorials dedicated to preserving the memory of the victims.

After the guided tour of the Terezín concentration camp, we'll head back to the meeting point in Prague, where we'll conclude this activity, which lasts between 5.5 and 6 hours in total.
